South West Rocks is a small village situated on the east coast of Australia in between Coffs Harbour and Port Macquarie. Its beautiful landscape, pretty bays and unspoiled beaches make it an excellent holiday destination. Water sports such as swimming, diving, fishing, snorkeling, windsurfing, sailing but also horseback riding, walking and mountain biking are popular one day activities. Two popular rocky outcrops just offshore are Fish Rock and Green Island, both excellent dive sites, and both have been declared a critical habitat protection area for grey nurse sharks. South West Rock is situated near the mouth of the Macleay River, often reason enough to create bumpy boat rides until you are past the river wave breakers.

The shores of the Arakoon State Conservation Area and the Hat Head National Park provide remote beaches, scenic bushwalks and brilliant dive sites. It is possible to walk all the way from Trial Bay in the north to Crescent Head, almost 50km to the south. The historic Trial Bay Gaol was built from granite in the 1880's to house criminals but has nowadays been transformed into a museum. Other fun attractions are the kangaroo feedings at the Little Bay picnic area, excellent ozzy barbeques at Smoky Cape Lighthouse and visits to Horse Shoe Bay and pristine Main Beach.

Divers will know South West Rocks because it is one of the best dive areas to find grey nurse sharks. Although rare and endangered, these ancient and docile species are found in the waters around South West Rock in large numbers. It is also common to see whales migrating north and south. There is plenty to see besides Fish Rock Cave which is one of the largest and most popular ocean caverns in Australia. There are loads of fish, a wide variety of underwater landscapes, all suitable for novice and professional divers.
