Cape Pinnacle has a large circular rocky reef with depths ranging from 32 to 40 meters with good diving possible at 35 meters maximum. It is normally practical to fully circumnavigate the pinnacle and return to the anchor line without exceeding a safe bottom time if you have reasonable deep diving and current diving skills. The surface includes undercuts and ledges and there is a rich and colorful invertebrate growth with some local species unique to this site. Large fish such as jewfish, cobia, cod grouper and kingfish are frequently sighted as are several types of rays. Big wobbegong sharks are normally present. Visibility here is similar to that around the Julian Rocks. On days of above average visibility the sight of the bubble curtain created by divers ascending the anchor line can be spectacular.
