Seal Rocks is a small sleeping community, originally a fishing village, located on the eastern peninsula just south of the twin-town Forster-Tuncurry and the only settlement inside Myall Lakes National Park. Seal Rocks is a quiet place with a stunning waterhole, secluded surfing beaches and excellent picnic facilities. The beautiful Sugarloaf Point Lighthouse or Seal Rocks Lighthouse was completed in 1875 and offers panoramic views on its bays and shores. You can reach it after a short trip across lakes way and seal rocks road to find you surrounded by forests and pristine lakes. Smiths Lake, Bombah Broadwater, Treachery Beach and Yagon Beach are remarkable attractions nearby.
Besides its resident Australian Fur Seals colony, which you can often meet while diving at one of its fantastic dive sites, there are plenty of other sights. It is one of the most popular places in New South Wales to dive with grey nurse sharks, especially around the two little rocky outcroppings Big Seal Rock and Little Seal Rock just offshore the lighthouse. Other popular dive sites in Seal Rocks are the wrecks of the SS Satara and the SS Catterthun which proves the necessities of a good working lighthouse. Most dives are boat dives in often high current waters. Always use the mooring lines to ascent and descent. It is also always a mystery if you will be diving in 2 meter or 25 meter visibility. But despite all this, it is one of the best dive destinations in New South Wales.
