Davies Reef is a popular and sometimes crowded mid-shelf reef located at slightly more than 100 kilometer northeast of Townsville. It is one of the few reefs inside the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park that has its own AIMS Automatic Weather Station (AWS). This well visible weather transmitting tower offers a permanent communication link with shore allowing it to stream all kinds of weather information and real-time video.

The diving here is excellent with plenty of different dive sites. You can find great wall diving, deep gutters and huge pinnacles. Pelagic fish such as barracuda are often spotted at the edges of this reef waiting for smaller fish in the current. Parrot fish, fusiliers, wrasses and anemone fish are found at the often shallower coral dive sites.
