The twin town Forster - Tuncurry is a great holiday destination. It is a sleepy fishing village surrounded by pretty oceanic shores, the salt water lake Wallis and several nature reserves. Forster Main Beach or 'The Bullring' is one of the best beaches near Forster. Other popular beaches, also for surfing, are Pebbly Beach, Tuncurry Beach and One Mile Beach. Besides water activities, one can enjoy its rainforest hinterland, huge waterfalls and panoramic lookouts at Wallingat National Park or Wallis island Nature Reserve. Bird enthusiasts can visit the reserves of Regatta Island, Cockatoo Island and Bandicoot Island. Near Green Point, you can take a look at the Booti Booti National Park and the Yahoo Island Reserve. The Bicentennial Coastal Walk allows views across Wallis Lake and its beautiful coast, especially from Pilot Hill and Cape Hawke Lookout. Forster and Tuncurry are separated from each other by a narrow waterway which is popular for fishing for bream, trevally, flathead and many other species. There are plenty of opportunities to spend the day deep-sea fishing, watching dolphins and whales.
Divers will not be disappointed in the Forster region. The Great Lakes offer superb ship wrecks, steep drop-offs and excellent caves and snorkeling. It is also one of the best spots around the coast to dive with terrifying looking grey nurse sharks. Some of the more popular dive sites are the spectacular but deep dive site Pinnacle and One Mile Gutters for its resting sharks. Other marine species often encountered are Wobbegongs, Stingrays, eagle rays and many of the common reef fish such as batfish, turtles, cuttlefish and yellow tails. Its underwater scenery is mainly kelp and soft corals covering the rocky and sometimes sandy bottom.
