Lizard Island is a green 3x3 kilometer long National Park northeast of Cooktown Queensland, one of the last 'real' towns this far north in Australia. It is a very popular holiday destination for scuba divers since it is the closest you can stay (except liveaboards) near several of Australia's famous northern reefs such as Ribbon Nr 10 Reef ( Cod Hole), the Snake Pit and No Name Reef. But also many unknown reefs in the Coral Sea are waiting for you to be explored and dived. Those not interested in day trips can get their scuba or snorkel gear and start diving off its beautiful fringing reefs reached after a short swim.

This green tropical paradise was first discovered by Captain James Cook in 1770 and named after the many goannas (Australian monitor lizards) you will find here. You can stroll to the islands highest hill named Cook's Look (359m) or explore one of its nearby smaller islands Osprey. The Lizard Island Group (Palfrey Island, South Island and the Seabird Islet) enclose the famous blue lagoon. There are about 24 powdery white beaches surrounding the island, most offering isolated blue lagoons with the best snorkeling you can get this close to your resort. Popular day activities are deep-sea game fishing (mahi-mahi, trevally, marlin, tuna, trout), motorised dinghy tours, sailing and glass bottomed boat trips.
