One of Australia's most popular wrecks, the HMAS Brisbane makes for a great dive site. She was a guided missile destroyer that was built for the Royal Australian Navy (RAN) in the USA in 1965. When the 134 meter long ship was launched on 5 May 1966, it was christened by the Lord Mayor's wife. It served on several missions during the Vietnam War between 1969 and 1971. In 1990 it also deployed to the Persian Gulf for Operation Damask. The HMAS Brisbane's primarily role was plane guard for the USS Midway Carrier Task Group. On 19 October 2001 the ship was decommissioned by the Royal Australian Navy. The Bridge and one of the 127 mm guns were preserved and are now on display at the Australian War Memorial in Canberra.

The HMAS Brisbane was sunk on 31 July 2005 off the coast of Mooloolaba and is lying on a depth of approximately 30 meters. After the detonation of 38 charges, the hull collapsed and this fantastic wreck sank in less than 3 minutes.
