New South Wales (NSW) is the most populous state of Australia and home to Sydney, one of Australia's most vibrant cities. Sydney has everything, from pretty promenades, excellent world renowned architecture, cosmopolitan lifestyle, museums, chique shopping and also some great scuba diving.

Besides Sydney there are plenty of other popular areas in NSW attractive for tourists. You can get lost in the Blue Mountains; visit the wineries of the Hunter Valley or take a look at the Great Dividing Range with its Tablelands. To the north of Sydney, you can visit Port Stephens, Port Macquarie (for trips towards Lord Howe Island and Norfolk Islands), Coffs Harbour or the long time backpacker and surfing favorite Byron Bay. To the south, you can go skiing inside the Kosciuszko National Park, dive around beautiful Bass Point or visit one of its national parks near Canberra, Australia's capital. The scenery around the coast of New South Wales is stunning. There are picturesque bays, crystal clear blue lakes, golden sandy beaches and innumerable small streams, creeks and rivers. Green hills, coastal lowlands, huge waterfalls, volcanic peaks, dense forests and pretty towns make NSW one of best holiday locations in the world.

Scuba diving is almost as popular here as it is in the region around Cairns and the Great Barrier Reef. Popular dive sites are Fish Rock Cave, a great submerged underwater tunnel near South West Rock that allows you to dive right thru Fish Rock. The protected area of Julian Rocks, near Byron Bay, provides nutrient rich waters with coral reef fish as well as pelagic species in all sizes and colors. There are many secluded bays and calm river openings that provides Sydney with plenty of dive sites. Port Hacking, Botany Bay, Sydney Harbour and Hawkesbury River have tens of spectacular named dive sites. From wrecks, soft coral gardens to excellent muck diving sites, you can find a dive site to your liking. The east coast of NSW is also home to an annual migration of Humpback Whales, many dolphins and turtles. Other islands just offshore include the Solitary Islands and Brighton Island, known for its beautiful scenery above as well as beneath the ocean surface. For the more experienced divers among us, NSW is a top dive destination with many dive sites known to divers around the world.
